Do you have some winter hiking experience and are considering getting into backpacking in the colder winter months but want a lower risk introduction? Are you already into winter Backpacking and camping and want to get out there? If yes, then this trip might be for you. Mount Monadnock hardly needs an introduction but for those who haven't heard; Mount Monadnock is purportedly the second most summited mountain on the planet (125,000 hikers per year) second to only Mount Fuji in Japan. The treeless summit of Monadnock offers 360 degree views stretching 100 miles in all Directions with clear day views as far as Mount Washington and the Boston skyline. This trip is open to anyone with some cold weather hiking/3-season backpacking experience and welcomes those with no winter camping/backpacking experience. The hiking pace will be moderate and elevation gain will be under 2000 feet. Interested participants should be comfortable on steep rocky scrambles with some snow or ice present and possess the equipment to do so. For those further interested in winter backpacking, AMC Boston will be putting on a winter camping and backpacking program. It is live on outdoors.org and REGI now and will begin December 17th. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
