Whether you're new to winter hiking or an experienced adventurer, this journey provides a chance to immerse yourself in the beauty of winter in the White Mountains while learning new skills and sharing the experience with a fun, supportive group. Friday Evening: Our adventure begins with an introductory meeting at AMC's Highland Center, where you'll meet your fellow participants and guides for a trip overview followed by a dinner with the group. Saturday: After a hearty breakfast, we'll gather our gear and board the AMC van for transport to the trailhead. Upon arrival at the trailhead, we'll begin our hike to Lonesome Lake Hut. The hike to Lonesome Lake Hut starts with a moderate, steady climb for just over a mile, taking us through a beautiful winter forest and up to Lonesome Lake. This section of the trail provides a steady, manageable ascent, making it a great opportunity to adjust to the winter conditions and take in the peaceful surroundings. Once we reach Lonesome Lake, the trail levels out as we hike at the edge of the lake, offering stunning views of the frozen waters and the surrounding peaks of Franconia Ridge. This flat section of trail is a relaxing way to enjoy the winter scenery before we reach the hut. Upon arriving at the Hut, you'll have time to settle in, warm up, and take in the beauty of the area. Depending on the group's interest and timing, we may have an opportunity to explore additional trails nearby with lighter packs, giving you the chance to enjoy more of the winter landscape around the hut. In the evening, we'll prepare a hearty dinner in the hut kitchen and enjoy our meal together, sharing stories of the day as we warm up next to the crackling wood stove. Sunday: After a night's sleep in the shared bunkrooms, we'll enjoy a warm breakfast and coffee before we depart on our hike back down the Lonesome Lake Trail. We'll enjoy our final morning on the snowy trails with a relaxed descent. Once we complete our hike, we'll return the Highland Center. We'll end the adventure with a final lunch together, reflecting on the experience and saying our goodbyes. This winter hiking adventure to Lonesome Lake Hut offers the perfect opportunity to explore the beauty of the White Mountains in winter, connect with nature, and enjoy the camaraderie of a small group.
