Join us for a winter backcountry adventure to Carter Notch Hut in the heart of the White Mountains! This trip is perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of the winter wilderness, while enjoying a rewarding hiking experience with a fun and supportive group. Whether you're new to winter hiking or an experienced adventurer, this journey offers an opportunity to connect with nature, learn new skills, and share the adventure with like-minded individuals in their 20s and 30s. Friday Evening: Our adventure begins with a welcoming dinner at AMC's Joe Dodge Lodge, where you'll meet your fellow participants and guides. After dinner, we'll go over the trip itinerary, discuss the gear you'll need, and prepare for the days ahead. Saturday: After a hearty breakfast, we'll gather our gear and board the AMC van for transport to the trailhead. Upon arrival at the trailhead, we'll begin our 3.8-mile hike to Carter Notch Hut via the 19-Mile Brook Trail. The hike to Carter Notch Hut begins with a gentle ascent as we follow a beautiful brook, making our way through the snow-covered forest. The first half of the hike is a moderate, steady climb, giving us time to adjust to the conditions and enjoy the peaceful winter surroundings. As we approach the hut, the terrain becomes slightly more challenging, with moderate and steeper ascents in the second half of the hike. At this point, the trail offers some more demanding sections, but our guides will ensure a comfortable, steady pace with breaks, making sure everyone stays comfortable throughout the hike. After reaching the hut, you'll have time to explore the surrounding boulder fields and beautiful high mountain frozen lakes with lighter packs. In the evening, we'll prepare a hearty dinner in the hut kitchen and enjoy our meal together, sharing stories of the day as we warm up next to the crackling wood stove. Sunday: After a night's sleep in the shared bunkrooms, we'll enjoy a warm breakfast and coffee before we depart on our hike back down the 19-Mile Brook Trail. We'll enjoy our final morning on the snowy trails with a relaxed descent. Once we complete our hike, we'll return Joe Dodge Lodge. We'll end the adventure with a final lunch together, reflecting on the experience and saying our goodbyes. This winter hiking adventure to Carter Notch Hut offers the perfect opportunity to explore the beauty of the White Mountains in winter, connect with nature, and enjoy the camaraderie of a small group.
