The Massachusetts Appalachian Trail Management Committee is seeking a Group Outreach Coordinator. The Coordinator would establish and maintain contacts with organized or sponsored groups that use the AT in Massachusetts with the objective of minimizing the impact of group use on the trail and trail facilities. Duties include: - Maintain records of groups which contact the Coordinator that are planning to use the Mass AT and overnight facilities, or groups that register through ATCamp on the ATC website. - Provide information and advice to groups planning to use the AT. Steer groups to sites that can accommodate their group, with the goal to avoid groups overlapping at a given site. - Reach out to groups that use the AT but do not use the above web pages, and encourage them to follow the regulations and recommendations presented on those pages. - Encourage groups to self manage their trail use consistent with Leave-No-Trace practices and maintaining a remote wilderness, backcountry experience for all users - Participation in bimonthly AT Committee meetings (in person or online) and occasional meetings with organizations sponsoring groups on the A.T. - Pass on pertinent information regarding group use to the Committee and management partners. Provide timely group usage information to the DCR and AMC ridgerunner programs. - With the assistance of the Western Mass Chapter Webmaster, maintain the AT Committee - Group Hiking on the AT web page. - Prepare an annual report detailing group usage and group contact information. Skills Needed: Must have good email, word processing and telephone skills Must have good communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to be firm but cordial in communicating the rules for use of the A.T.
