Hello my friends and fine folx! It's time for a hike! In the winter! With the LGBTQIA2S+ Community! Wow! Now that I've summed up the title of the hike in more words but the same core content, let's get to details. We're hiking Mt. Grace on December 14. For any hikers inexperienced in the winter or curious at dipping their toes into the proverbially frozen water, this hike is an A1 opportunity to do so. This hike comes in at an 1100 foot elevation gain; the slope is gradual without challenging terrain. Our plan is to travel along the 3.9 mile Mt. Grace Long Loop. We're planning on cutting a 1.5 mile-per-hour pace, but that is dependent on ground conditions (snow level) and group vibe. We're there to hike together after all, so we'll hike at the pace the group feels good about. Be sure to bring food as we'll stop at the peak for a trail lunch. There's a pretty cool old firetower up there. So if you were me, you'd be like "Wow! A firetower! I love firetowers!" And then I'd be like "Cool! Me too! Glad you're weird too." Lastly, this is a winter hike dependent on both weather and gear. Weather informs our ability to safely conduct the hike, and determines what level of gear is required. At a minimum microspikes will be REQUIRED. Traction control is no joke, my friends. Appropriate layers and insulation is also needed. I will be in contact with you when you are confirmed for the hike in order to ensure you have appropriate gear. If you feel you do not have the appropriate gear, please email me. The Worcester AMC maintains a gear shed and we should be able to supplement and equip you appropriately as needed. This activity is being held for the AMC LGBTQ+ Affinity Group. If you are not a member of this community, please support AMC's mission to provide activities for underserved communities and find a different outing for yourself.
