Mt Pierce, Crawford Notch, White Mountains, Carroll, NH,
New Hampshire, White Mountains,
NH
Join SEM on a hike up the famed Crawford Path to New Hampshire's Mt. Pierce (4,312'), which offers spectacular views of the southern peaks of the Presidential Range, including Eisenhower, Washington, and Jackson. Expect a moderately paced, 6-mile hike over 5-6 hours. The path's mostly protected but steady ascent includes about 2,400 ft of elevation gain, with likely exposure to very cold, windy conditions at the summit. This out-and-back hike has an AMC Activity Rating of Moderate. It is open to all who qualify and while you do not have to be a member of AMC to participate, attendance in a Winter Hiking Workshop or previous winter hiking experience is required. Preference will be given to first-time winter hikers who attended this year's SEM Winter Hiking Workshop. Full winter gear - including winter boots, traction devices, snowshoes, face protection, and multiple clothing layers - will be required for this hike. Online registration is required. Applicants will be asked about recent winter hiking experience, equipment, and conditioning before acceptance. A complete gear list and meet-up information will be provided to all confirmed participants. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, meeting place and/or time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt-out.
