Overview

Join us for a challenging winter backpack adventure in the Adirondack High Peaks Wilderness. Approximately 23miles 7600ft elevation gain split over 3 days. Due to carrying heavy packs up significant elevation and distance with the possibility for significant trail breaking we will move at a slow pace. We will camp on/near the Great Range. With good weather and a motivated group of strong hikers, we will summit Marcy, Haystack, and Basin. Previous winter backpacking and above treeline hiking experience are required and participants should be in shape for long, challenging hikes with winter loads. Actual experience using mountaineering crampons and an ice axe is required. Expect to share trail breaking duties depending on weather and trail conditions. We will encounter icy/snowy exposed ledges and scrambles in combination with extended above treeline winter conditions. Ensure you have lined your backpack and have extra clothing in case water crossings go awry. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
