This is a trip for beginner Winter backpackers, with Winter day-hiking experience, although experienced backpackers should enjoy it too. Moderate Pace, Low Daily Mileage, Total = 13.5 to 14 mi. - Public transportation is available. Daily mileage will be short: approximately 5 miles or less. Day 1 will take us over Jackie Jones Mtn. to a tent site near 3rd Reservoir. Fires are not allowed here. On Day 2, we'll follow the Suffern/Bear Mtn. Trail over Panther Mtn. to the Stone Memorial Shelter. On Day 3, we'll hike along Pine Meadow Lake then follow Pine Meadow & Stony Brooks to Reeves Meadow. There are 6 scenic viewpoints along our route. There will be an approximately 9-mile car shuttle before we start hiking. If you are a beginner at Winter camping, you'll need to discuss your experience and gear with the leader. Contact the leader with your questions or to express your interest in this outing. The leader has some equipment to loan. You may be also able to borrow or rent gear.
