Overview

Join us for an approximately 3-mile family friendly evening walk starting from Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove off the GW Parkway in Arlington. We will take a leisurely walk along the Potomac River and look at the full moon. This walk is an oasis in our urban world -- a chance to truly feel outdoors and see the reflections along the water. We should also be able to visit the Navy Merchant Marine Memorial. We will not be in a hurry and are walking along paved surfaces. You might bring a blanket to sit on the grass and look across the water while we sip our hot chocolate. No promises, but we saw a water animal -- probably a beaver -- on our November Full Moon Walk. Meet at the two benches at the entrance to the walkway to the LBJ Memorial at 6:15 for a 6:30 start. This is just off the George Washington Memorial Parkway at the opposite end of the huge parking lot from the restaurant and boat launch ramp. Consider bringing a reusable cup for the hot chocolate. Perhaps bring a flashlight or headlamp, but it is not particularly dark and will just have them for back-up. No fees. No dogs. Please email Peg to RSVP for the walk. [email protected]

I began hiking and camping with my family before I started school, and continued as a Girl Scout. I raised three outdoors kids and now hike and camp with my grandkids. I like finding new flowers and small critters along the way. Summer 2022 I did multi-day backpacking hikes in Japan and Norway. Last spring I hiked more than 2 months in Japan. In January I did multiple day hikes in Taiwan. I have recently complete training and certification as a Wilderness EMT.
