Overview

Join us for a day of backcountry skiing on Mount Washington's below treeline trails originally cut by the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) during the 1930s. Conditions permitting, our plan is to ski the Sherburne Ski Trail, requiring uphill travel of 2.4 miles (1,900' vertical gain). After a break, those interested will ski the Gulf of Slides Ski Trail, requiring uphill travel of 2.5 miles (1,900' vertical gain). These two trails are New England backcountry skiing classics! This trip is particularly geared towards skiers / snowboarders who are familiar with uphill travel but perhaps have limited or no backcountry experience. Skiers must have familiarity with their gear and be comfortable skiing / riding black diamond-level terrain under variable conditions. Participants will be asked about past skiing experience before acceptance. Our group will travel at a moderate pace. All participants should be prepared for vigorous aerobic exercise. For those needing rental of alpine touring or splitboard gear: AMC is pleased to offer substantially reduced pricing through a local retailer. Further details available upon request. Cancellations made at least two weeks prior to the trip will be refunded in full, minus PayPal transaction fees. Cancellations made less than two weeks prior to the trip will only be refunded (minus PayPal transaction fees) after the event if another participant can be found to fill the slot.
