New Hampshire, White Mountains,
NH
This trip is part of the Boston Chapter Winter Camping and Backpacking Program (WBP) and enrolled participants in that program have priority for registration for this trip. Registration may be opened to others at a later date. This trip is an introduction to winter camping for people who have little to no recent experience sleeping in the woods in Winter. It will provide an opportunity to test out and practice with your Winter camping gear - setting up tents, using stoves, sleeping in a Winter bag, etc. - in a safe environment. By camping close to our cars, you can have extra gear handy if needed. The trip is designed to allow you to use much of your existing 3-season backpacking gear, supplemented with borrowed or rented or newly acquired gear where needed. From the campground, we will do a day hike to Lonesome Lake (3.2 miles round trip). You can set up camp before hiking or, for a true Winter backpacking experience, you can carry your full backpack for that hike and set up your tent when we return to camp. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
