Overview

This trip is part of the Boston Chapter Winter Camping and Backpacking Program (WBP) and enrolled participants in that program have priority for registration for this trip. Registration may be opened to others at a later date. This trip is intended for participants who would like to try Winter backpacking for the first time or hone their Winter camping and backpacking skills in a safe and fun environment. We will hike from the Lincoln Wood trailhead to Franconia tent site - approximately 3 miles along generally level terrain - where we will set up camp. The tent site, with its beautiful views of the adjacent Pemigewasset River, is a perfect spot to practice and refine your Winter camping skills. After setting up camp, there may be an opportunity to hike further along the Eastside Trail if time permits. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.

Stephen loves the outdoors, particularly in winter. He started hiking and backpacking as a teen and has not stopped since. He has hiked the NH 4000 footers several times in all seasons, and thru-hiked the AT in 2016. Stephen has led trips for the AMC for many years. He prefers backpacks (multi-day when his schedule allows), and hikes at a relaxed pace.
