This trip is part of the Boston Chapter Winter Camping and Backpacking Program (WBP) and enrolled participants in that program have priority for registration for this trip. Registration may be opened to others at a later date. This trip is intended for participants who would like to try Winter backpacking for the first time or hone their Winter camping and backpacking skills in a safe and fun environment. The trip will involve a relatively short hike (approximately two miles) at a moderate pace over gently rolling terrain, followed by camping at a site with a three-sided shelter. We will camp adjacent to Pisgah State Park along the Wantastiquet-Monadnock Trail: approximately a two-hour drive from the Boston area. At our destination we will have an opportunity to practice with our winter camping gear - setting up our tents, using our stoves, etc. Also, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the trails in the area which offer beautiful views of the Vermont mountains. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
