Jose Schroen and her team started their month-long wilderness canoe trip with the plan to paddle through northern Labrador to Hopedale on the Atlantic Ocean. But several days in, they hit a major snag, scrambled to replan the trip on the fly (on the water?), and instead made their way to the Arctic Ocean … a small, 250-mile detour to their new end point at Kangiqsualujjuaq, Quebec! Hear Jose's story about the history and background of the planned trip, what happened, how they replanned, and what they ended up actually doing. She'll explain how the disappearing caribou in the North was a major factor in this "failed " expedition, and how the indigenous people in the area played a key role in their success. (This is a rescheduling of the November 2024 3rd Wed., which was cancelled.) Jose is an active AMC Worcester Chapter member and leader, member of the Executive Committee, and an experienced paddler, cross-country cyclist, and long-distance hiker and backpacker. Location: Northboro Historical Society, 52 Main St. (Rt.20) - parking lot on School St. Doors open at 6:30. Dinner at 7:00. Speaker shortly after. Bring a dish to share - appetizer, entree, dessert, or beverage. Registration is not required, and all are welcome: members, non-members, families, visitors & guests.
