Overview

Join us for a beautiful First Day Hike at Ravenswood Park in Gloucester. You will be hiking between 5-6 miles on single track trails over varied terrain with rocks, roots and slabs with numerous ups and downs and maybe even some snow and ice. Elevation gain 600+feet. We will be hiking out to beautiful Fernwood Lake, hike through Magnolia Swamp, experience a beautiful view of Gloucester Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean, and hike past many glacial erratics. We will hike at an easy pace to end the hike around 2:00PM., depending on the pace of the group. The 2:00PM finish includes hiking the Boulder Trail, an option for those who wish to do it; otherwise the hike will end around 1:30 for those not hiking the Boulder Trail. Please note we will be walking around the boulders not over them. Bring the required essentials in your day pack (no draw string back sacs) at least 2 liters of water, lunch and snacks, sunscreen, hat and gloves (hand warmers?? if you use them), an extra pair of wool socks, rain/'wind jacket, and first aid and anti blister supplies. Wear wool socks and appropriate hiking footwear ( insulated and water proof, no sneakers). Dress in moisture wicking layers (no cotton or blue jeans). Hiking poles and gaiters, highly recommended, if you have them. ***Micro-spikes required, if snow or ice on trails. Bring something to sit on for lunch. Meeting spot and directions will be e-mailed to confirmed participants prior to the hike. Sorry no dogs. A snow storm/ rain will cancel, as will unusually low temps or high winds; snow or ice on the trails will not, that is why you are bringing your micro-spikes, Car pooling always encouraged. Any questions. please contact the Leader. The leaders reserve the right to adjust the route if conditions warrant it and can not guarantee the hike /walk will be completed by any specific time. We do understand that unforeseen circumstances beyond your control may arise which may force you to cancel, if confirmed. Please consider your wanting to participate vs. your being able to participate and your commitment to that participation before registering and please do not be a No Show. If you need to cancel , please do so through your AMC account/dashboard so that your spot can be filled in a hopefully timely manner, and please remember to mark your calendar, if confirmed, so that you do not become a No Show.
