Mount Washington,
New Hampshire, White Mountains,
NH
Join us for a classic January ascent of Mount Washington and Mount Monroe! This will be a strenuous ~8 mile out-and-back hike with around 4,000 ft of elevation gain. We will hike at a moderate pace and, depending on the trail and weather conditions, will expect to hike for 7-9 hours. As this is a January hike with above treeline sections, trail conditions may entail hiking up and down icy and slippery rocks and full-on deep snowpack. Because of the potential for wintry conditions, we are looking for hikers with previous winter experience. Participants will have previously completed similar cold weather hikes. Familiarity with microspikes, snowshoes, and crampons is a requirement for this hike. Full winter hiking gear as seen on the checklist here is required and participants should be comfortable hiking out in the dark. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt-out. .
