A moderate paced hike up to the summit of Mount Watatic (elevation 1,832 ft) located on the Massachusetts - New Hampshire border at the southern end of the Wapack Trail. We will also hike along portions of the Mid-State Trail. The route has a total elevation gain of about 1,100 ft and includes several long steep sections. We will have lunch at Binney Pond, located in the Binney Hill Wilderness Preserve. The total trip is around 8 miles. Plan to be out for about 6 hours depending on the pace of the group (which can vary). The hike leaders reserve the right to adjust the route if conditions warrant and cannot guarantee the hike will be completed by any specific time. Wear sturdy hiking shoes. Be prepared for a wet and/or muddy/icy and /or snow trail. Wear moisture wicking layers and clothing appropriate for the weather. Bring the following in your Daypack/Backpack: lunch and snacks, at least 2 liters of water, rain coat/rain gear and warm layers (temps in the mountains are often cooler than expected). Hiking poles recommended. A hat, gloves, scarf. Microspikes may be required depending on the conditions Please wear bright colors/blaze orange.
