This area is a rugged, high elevation East-West ridge of more than 19,250 acres. Rusk, SW Hunter, West Kill & Hunter are Catskill High Peaks. Hunter has the unique distinction of having the highest elevation fire tower of any mountain in NYS. A climb to the top gets you the very best view in NYS. Our basecamp will be near beautiful Diamond Notch Falls, a 24 ft. drop into a circular rock formation. It's only 1.2 miles to this tent site with a lean-to. .There are several possible day hikes, depending on trail conditions, weather and desire of the group. Day hikes will take the better part of each day. The leader has a sled to loan to whoever may want to try sled-packing. He also has some gear to loan. Check the Winter Gear List using the link below. If you have not done a Winter overnight with the leader, he may want to speak with you. There is no public transportation to the meeting place. However, you might be able to get a bus to Kingston, NY, or catch a ride with another participant. If you ride share, you will be expected to help with the cost.
