Join us for a pleasant hike up Mount Garfield. We will hike approximately 10 miles (3,000 feet of elevation gain) at a moderate pace over varied terrain. With the winter road closure, we'll have an additional flat 1.25 mile road walk to the trailhead for a round trip distance of 12.5 miles. On a nice day, the summit provides a 360º view of Franconia Ridge, Owl's Head Mountain, and the Twin Mountains to the west. Depending on conditions, plan for this trip to take roughly 8-10 hours of hiking. We can expect extreme cold, wind, ice, snow and the possibility of breaking trail. Please be an experienced winter hiker with full winter gear including winter boots, microspikes, snowshoes, face protection and maybe crampons. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt-out.
