Overview

Join us for an approximately 7-mile hike within Patapsco Valley State Park near Elkridge, Maryland. This hike is along maintained foot trails. We will hike along the Cascade Falls Trail, portions of the Grist Mill, Buzzards Rock and Sawmill Branch Trails. Portions of the hike will have steepness and may require walking around/over blowdowns. The trail may be muddy in spots, and there will be several small creek crossings. Hikers will require sure footing as there are some rocks, and one section will include walking along an elevated trail beside the Patapsco River streambank. Portions of the hike will be on trails that allow horses and bikes. We will hike at a moderate pace (~2 MPH) and expect to complete the hike in 4 hours. The hike will begin at the parking lot near the Swinging Bridge/Orange Grove Area. Enter through Park Entrance Road, Left onto Gun Road, Right onto River Road, pass Avalon Shelter and continue for 2 miles to Orange Grove area. We will meet in the parking lot at 8:45am and begin walking at 9am. There is a park entrance fee (4$). Closed toed shoes are required. Please bring at least 1L of water. Dress in layers as you will warm up through the walk. If your hiking boots are not waterproof, an extra pair of socks is recommended. Bringing snacks or a light lunch is encouraged. We will hike rain or shine but will cancel for severe weather.
