New Hampshire, White Mountains,
NH
Join us for a winter day hike to the summit of Mt. Cube, which is on the list of '52 With A View' peaks. The bare summit affords views of nearby Smarts Mountain and a more distant Mt. Cardigan. A side trail to the North Peak gives views of Moosilauke to the north and east. This hike is approximately 6.55 miles as an 'Out and Back' along the Appalachian Trail, with approximately 2100' of elevation gain. We will hike at a moderate pace, anticipating an average pace of ~1.5 mph. Depending on the trail conditions, we will hope to take the additional 0.3 mile side trail to the North Peak. This hike is most suited for people with winter hiking experience over mountain terrain of similar distance and elevation gain and is considered vigorous. Participants should be comfortable managing their temperature with layers in winter and traveling on snow using trail crampons, such as Kahtoola Microspikes or Hillsound Trail Crampons, and mountaineering snowshoes. A complete list of required gear is given in the gear list. When registering, please ensure that your REGI profile is current, including details of your recent hiking experiences in the last 3 months, including dates, approximate distance, elevation gain and approximate time to complete the hike. Having this information will greatly assist the leaders in ensuring the hike is a good fit for participants. Leaders will cancel the hike if it is raining or if conditions are not safe for driving to/from the trailhead (snow/ice). To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
