Join us for some enjoyable exercise: an approximately 5-7 mile hike on trails in Valley Forge National Historical Park. The difficulty level will be moderate, with speeds around 3 to 3.5 mph in the easier sections, and lower in hilly and uneven sections (rocks, tree roots, etc.); total elevation gain will be around 700 - 1,200 feet. Trails on Mt. Misery and/or Mt. Joy will be included as well as flatter areas. We will stop periodically, especially at the tops of hills if some go up faster than others, so that we all continue on the same hike. Meet in the Artillery Park parking lot, at the end near the restrooms. Bring water, clothing appropriate for the weather (layers work well), sturdy footwear (hiking shoes or boots work well), and a smile. Sign up on Meetup is encouraged for those who use Meetup (https://www.meetup.com/Appalachian-Mountain-Club-Delaware-Valley-Chapter) as this allows easy communication and lets us know to expect you. If you don't use Meetup, feel free to contact one of the leaders directly to let us know you plan to attend. If the hike is canceled, such as due to weather, we plan to announce this at least two hours in advance. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on a 6' or shorter leash as required by the park. AMC is a non-profit organization and the hike leaders are volunteers. All participants will need to sign the AMC liability release agreement just prior to the hike (you can review it in advance at https://www.outdoors.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Volunteer-Led-Activity-Release-21.pdf). Children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who will need to sign the agreement for them. If you are running late or have questions, call or text Pat at 610-220-7012 or David at 610-420-9714.
