Chesterfield Gorge, River Road, West Chesterford, MA,
Massachusetts, Connecticut River Valley,

Hike option: Loop trail of a little over 7 miles. We begin by exploring the picturesque Chesterfield Gorge, a natural wonder that sets the tone for the hike. From there, we head down an old road before turning onto well-maintained snowmobile trails. These trails lead us through a serene wooded area to a scenic viewpoint. The path weaves up and down through the forest, offering easy footing and the chance to admire impressive stone walls along the way. Eventually, we rejoin the East Branch Trail, where we can pause for lunch on smooth, sunlit rocks adorned with fascinating potholes. The return journey follows a gentle, 3-mile route along the East Branch Trail, providing a relaxing end to the hike. Snowshoeing Option: If snowshoeing conditions are favorable, we will stay on the East Branch Trail, trekking as far as the group feels comfortable. The total distance will be no more than 6 miles round trip. Come ready to have fun! Please ensure you are properly prepared for the hike: Footwear: Wear warm socks and sturdy, closed-toe shoes, such as waterproof hiking boots. Clothing: Dress in layers for cold weather. Include hats, gloves, and avoid cotton, as it doesn't dry well when wet. Gaiters or waterproof/snow pants can be helpful in deep snow. Gear: Bring hiking poles (if you use them), rain or snow gear (if precipitation is expected), and MICRO-spikes or snowshoes when snow or ice is on the trail. Food and Water: Pack snacks, lunch, and 1-2 liters of water, depending on your needs. If you don't have all the necessary equipment or need information about trail conditions, contact the hike leader in advance.
