Overview

Calling all hikers working on your winter 48! Join us for a strenuous weekend of winter hiking during which we will hike Mt Cabot (4,170') and Mt Garfield (4,500') on back-to-back days using Sub Sig Cabin in Crawford Notch as our weekend base. The hikes will be 10 and 12 miles, respectively, with 2,500' and 3,000' feet of elevation gain. The pace will be moderate to slow depending on trail and weather conditions. Participants will spend Friday and Saturday nights at Sub Sig Cabin in Crawford Notch, should be experienced winter hikers in excellent physical condition, and possess full winter gear, including microspikes, crampons and snowshoes. Previous experience hiking NH 4,000-footers in winter is a requirement. Sub Sig Cabin is located in Hart's Location, NH - about 10 miles south of the AMC Highland Center in Crawford Notch and has heat and electricity, a fully equipped kitchen, a cosy living/dining room, a 2-room sleeping area with mattresses, and a 2-stall HEATED outhouse. The cabin does NOT have running water and leaders and participants are expected to each bring 3 gallons of water for personal use, plus sleeping bags, pillows, a bed sheet and their own breakfasts and trail lunches. Sub Sig Cabin will be opened by the Leaders early Friday evening and all participants should aim to arrive by 9.00 pm having eaten dinner on the drive up. Dinner will be provided on Saturday night, but participants will be responsible for their breakfasts and lunches on Saturday and Sunday. The $86 cost covers $60 Cabin fees, $20 for Saturday dinner and a $6 administration fee. Cabin fees are refundable; dinner fee is refundable up to the Monday evening before the weekend. Participants are expected to assist with meal and Cabin cleanup. To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt-out.

(Email this person.)

I'm a regular and committed hiker. I completed the 2023/24 WHP and completed leadership training in Fall 2023. In addition to co-leading 3-season hikes, I am an information volunteer at the AMC high mountain huts. I also completed a SOBO AT thru-hike in December 2021. Essentially, I love hiking and being involved with the Boston hiking community!
