Overview

Join us for a day of skinning-up and skiing-down the historic CCC trails based out of Cardigan Lodge. This event is part of our Intro to Uphill program and is tailored towards those newer to uphill travel but with some experience, and begins to incorporate skiing in a backcountry setting. Participants should be proficient downhill skiers, capable of comfortably navigating advanced (i.e., black diamond) downhill slopes. The event is open to those using alpine touring, telemark or split-board gear. Instructors will review important aspects of moving uphill--efficient climbing techniques, transitioning, heat management, and hydration/nutrition--as well as techniques for skiing in ungroomed, backcountry locations. Participants should be capable of climbing 3,000 vertical feet. We will move at a pace comfortable to the group and practice good backcountry group dynamics. Registration is required. For those needing to rent alpine touring, telemark, or split board gear, AMC is pleased to offer substantially reduced pricing through a local retailer. Further details available upon request. Contact the leaders for questions and further details. Cancellations made by 2/9/25 will be refunded in full, minus PayPal transaction fees. Cancellations made on or after 2/10/25 will only be refunded (minus PayPal transaction fees) after the event if another participant can be found to fill the slot. Freddy is a backcountry leader with the AMC Boston Ski Committee. She loves exploring the outdoors as a backcountry skier, hiker, cyclist, and runner. When not sliding on frozen water, she can often be found below sea level as a local scuba diver.
